Türkiye is known to annually attract more than 60,000 people from all over the world who seek a hair transplant surgery. Speakers of the International Business Week 2024 proposed to get hold of the promising opportunity and encourage people to come to Ufa.

Such a fascinating discussion unfolded today, December 3, in Ufa's Wrestling Palace, at the session titled Medical Tourism: Regional Aspects of Industry Development. The event aimed to establish the Coordination Center for Medical Tourism in the Republic of Bashkortostan. It was planned to gather leading managers of the industry and investors willing to facilitate the development of such projects. The participants were quire resourceful with the ideas they proposed.

"Strange as it may seem, despite the fact that a hair transplantation procedure is extremely costly in Türkiye - up to 2,000 patients were extremely disappointed with the quality. Many of them were unlucky to come across unskilled personnel and eventually deal with poor results. People complained about the non-English-speaking staff and insanitary conditions. Patients returned to us after repeated transplants which resulted in the degradation of the area on the head hairs are extracted from to be transplanted. There was no need for them to go anywhere, though,” said Mikhail Aleksandrov, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Surgeon of the Highest Qualification Category.

Today, hair transplantation can be performed in Ufa. As a matter of fact, it is much more affordable here and the quality is better as well, the speaker claims. What we have to do is to promote the idea to the consumers in Bashkortostan and Russia. Keratoplasty, or corneal transplantation aimed at restoring the cornea's shape and functions is expected to become another destination for medical tourists. According to the Chief Medical Officer at the Ufa Eye Research Institute, the republic has an outstanding level of expertise in this field making it a significant advantage of the region.

The session also focused on such topics as establishing and acquiring medical franchises, modern business models of various medical centers with experience in attracting non-residents patients. The session primarily aimed to to identify certain points of attraction - unique offers by medical centers of the Republic of Bashkortostan - and to build cooperation between medical entrepreneurs and other business sectors (tourism, catering, hotels, etc.) for further development of medical and urban tourism in the Ufa and the Republic of Bashkortostan.
